Job Overview
To nurture the faith of Chattanooga Valley Presbyterian Church’s children (infant through fifth grade) by planning, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive Christian education ministry that reflects the love of Jesus.
Qualifications
A personal, vibrant, Gospel saturated relationship with Christ
A member in good standing of a PCA Church
Demonstrated Gospel-driven interest and giftedness in caring for children
Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills
Excellent interpersonal skills in a variety of settings
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Agreement with and commitment to the vision, mission and values of CVPC
Expected Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of CVPC’s children by maintaining a safe, nurturing environment and overseeing the implementation of the church’s Child Protection Policy.
Monitor and circulate during Sunday School hour and children’s programming in order to support teachers and students.
Attend Staff meetings to coordinate Children’s Ministry calendar events.
Attend monthly Christian Education (CE) committee meetings, collaborating on the development and direction of children’s ministries in both discipleship in the church and outreach in the community.
Work with the CE Committee to develop appropriate policies to recruit, train and supervise volunteers.
Collect and maintain up to date children’s registration forms.
Maintain a secure procedure for receiving and returning children from and to parents before and after all classes and activities (K - 3rd).
Assist in creating and managing the Children’s Ministry budget with direction from the CE committee.
Assure that classrooms, supplies and equipment are regularly inventoried and sufficiently maintained. Visually check each room Sunday morning to be sure of readiness.
Pray for children, volunteers, and families.
Programs
Develop and implement year-round Sunday programming for infants through 5th grade.
Develop children’s ministries that are in rhythm with the current ministries of our church.
Recommend children’s ministry curriculum that are in keeping with goals established by the CE Committee.
Maintain curriculum materials quarterly.
Work with Nursery Coordinator to ensure smooth transition for children moving from nursery to Children’s Ministry
Work with the Youth Director to assure that students leaving the Children’s Ministry have a smooth transition to the youth ministry.
Plan with the Music Director for children’s musical participation during the worship services.
Oversee and serve alongside the VBS Committee.
Volunteers
Present names of potential Children’s Ministry volunteers to session for approval.
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for all levels of children’s ministry
Be available to teachers and helpers for guidance and support. Regularly communicate with teachers regarding any possible concerns or issues.
Show teachers and helpers appreciation with notes, gifts, etc.
Events
Coordinate communication with parents regarding all children’s ministry opportunities/activities.
Plan, coordinate, facilitate and communicate regarding the annual Teacher’s Training workshop, and Promotion Sunday (with teacher recognition).
ANTICIPATED HOURS PER WEEK:
Average of 20 hours per week.
